Let me introduce you to my friend and talented artist Wes Huffor.  He’s got a lot going on for him now and we’d like to tell you all about it!

His name is Wes Huffor and he is 33, Grew up in San Bernardino, CA and now lives in Palm Springs CA

As a kid out of high school he worked for some crappy small press publishers in Socal Blue Comet Press and few others.  He self-published a gawd-awful betrayal/murder story in his early 20′s. He worked 2 jobs for about 10 years and wasn’t able to draw during that time. He finally got one good job and started picking up small drawing gigs, pitch proposals, design work and such before being published by Broken Voice UK, a Fan-atic Press anthology, as a back story in Viper Comics.
At that point he wanted to self publish again, the proper way, and talked to good writers he had already worked with; taking submissions online trying to find smart crime and horror stories like Twilight zone, Tales from the Crypt, Alfred Hitchcock and all the other anthology series he has really loved. His biggest problem with the anthologies he has read is that there are no continuity between stories because they are often all different creative teams. He wanted to work with the writers to create a single flow of multiple stories and draw everything myself to keep a consistent feeling throughout. He says it has worked really well. Together they made Charnel House #1 and he says it succeeded in what they wanted to accomplish.

Wes Huffor

During the planning stages of books 2 and 3 he was given the opportunity to work on The Wrath that was written by Jim Chambers and based on a screenplay by Darin Scott and Ed Polgarty. This was the perfect combination of crime and horror and completely fit everything he had been working toward so far. This is the project he is  currently finishing up now.

Along the way he has also done covers for several proposals, and independent publishers like Forbidden Panel’s ZKS pinup book, and Chymera’a project Stillborn. He really enjoys doing side projects like covers.

*Comic Book Artist’s Work To Be Entombed in Edgar Allen Poe’s NY Cottage

CHECK THIS OUT ABOUT WES! :

PALM SPRINGS, Calif — A horror comic book artist from the California desert will travel across the country to see his art plastered in the home of one of America’s most legendary writers.

Wes Huffor

Wes Huffor, an artist who has drawn horror comics for a handful of publishers (including himself), will travel June 23 to the New York cottage of Edgar Allen Poe. There, an untitled piece of art will be entombed in the walls of the cottage as part of an effort by the Historic House Trust of New York City.

ComicBooked.com: So, Wes, tell us a little about who has inspired you?

Wes Huffor: Creation to me is a means of connection with the reader or viewer. I always found myself drawn to work that showed me the real human vulnerabilities that we all share. Our fragility in terror, our hidden desires, to awful to admit to. I read a lot of Edgar Allen Poe, and Oscar Wilde, I really liked Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. In art, mostly Sterenko, Toth, Miller, Bradstreet. Anyone who can put hard edges on a character and make it look sexy.

ComicBooked.com: Who all have you done work for?

Wes Huffor: Several indie publishers in Socal back in the 90′s Blue comet, silverwolf, none that are still in business. A self-published thriller, then for David Berner (genius!) of Broken Voice UK. A story in a fanatic-press anthology, . a self-published horror anthology which was 5 writers and several colorists, but I pencil and inked the whole anthology titled Charnel House. A back story in Viper Comics a few years ago tons of covers for different projects from various developers/publishers. I’m currently working with director/producers Darin Scott and Ed Polgarty on a horror series titled The Wrath.

ComicBooked.com: Who do you wish to work with or for?

Wes Huffor: I just want to keep perusing scaring the be-jeezus out of people, so… Steve Niles, Eli Roth, Clive Barker, John Carpenter. If there was an impossible way to make it happen, Rod Serling and Alfred Hitchcock. Some of the classic novels, I’d love to help introduce to new people in a fresh way. I’ve always wanted to draw Raymond Chandler’s The Lady in the Lake, or anything Poe.

ComicBooked.com: How can your fans reach you and see your work?

Wes Huffor: My website is www.weshuffor.comalso they can like my Facebook art page (by clicking here), where I update all the time and do art giveaways regularly. And absolutely at convention tables all around the country. I’m adding more and more appearances every year and hope that people will come and chat with me about artwork and storytelling.
